The EUVAC project, an ambitious initiative aimed at developing the European Digital Vaccination Card, was officially launched with a successful kick-off meeting held in Greece during Athens Digital Health Week 2025. The project, which will be integrated into the MyHealth@EU network, is designed to facilitate the secure exchange of vaccination data across European member states. This will ensure that citizens receiving medical treatment in another EU country can have their vaccination records readily accessible to healthcare professionals, leading to more informed and efficient care.
The meeting was attended by key stakeholders, including representatives from HADEA (European Health and Digital Executive Agency), with EU Project Officer Katarina Krepeľková joining online and Chrysoula Lentzou participating onsite.
Project Overview and Work Packages
During the meeting, project leaders outlined the objectives and roadmap for EUVAC. The discussions were structured around different work packages (WPs), with key contributions from various European partners:
- WP1 (Management & Coordination) and WP3 (Evaluation & Sustainability) were presented by Sofia Terzi, Head of the European Programmes Department, Directorate of Project Planning and Management (IDIKA SA, Greece).
- WP2 (Dissemination) was led by the Cyprus team, represented by Marios Neofytou (NeHa, Cyprus) and Eirini Schizas (CYENS, Cyprus).
- WP4 (Requirements & Specifications) was presented by Marcelo Melgara (UCSC, Italy) and Zoltan Falusy (ESZFK, Hungary).
- WP5, which focuses on integrating the Digital Vaccination Card with the MyHealth@EU network, was presented by Konstantinos Mathioudakis, Head of the Analysis and Design Department, Directorate of Primary Healthcare Sector Systems (IDIKA SA, Greece).
- WP6, responsible for preparing the National Contact Points for eHealth for the cross-border exchange of vaccination data, was presented by Dimitris Tsikerdis, Head of the Development Department, Directorate of Systems for Primary Healthcare Sector (IDIKA SA, Greece).
The meeting commenced with a welcome address from IDIKA’s CEO, Mrs. Niki Tsouma, and an introduction to IDIKA and EUVAC by Mrs. Ioanna Salagianni, Director of Systems for Primary Healthcare Sector at IDIKA.
A Collaborative Effort for Public Health Innovation
With strong collaboration among European partners, EUVAC is expected to become a cornerstone in digital health services, enhancing the interoperability of health data across borders. By ensuring that vaccination records history are securely and efficiently shared between member states, the initiative aligns with broader EU efforts to improve healthcare access and patient safety.
Following the kick-off, project teams are eager to accelerate implementation, with the shared goal of delivering a high-impact service that will benefit millions across Europe.
“We are all thrilled to advance with EUVAC, a project with the potential to greatly improve public health services and drive digital health innovation across Europe,” said Sofia Terzi, concluding a full day of teamwork and presentations.
The EUVAC project is funded under the EU4Health program and represents a critical step toward a more integrated and resilient European healthcare system.
Further updates will be made available as EUVAC progresses toward its implementation phase.
