eVaccination Workshop: What are the current developments?
A workshop co-organised by IDIKA with the support Athens WHO Office.
The needs for an individual to have access to and share their health information are rising in an age of increasing mobility, tourism, population migration, and threats from climate change and epi-/pandemic events. Moreover, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic several countries joined forces into creating an architecture that would enable the mobility of citizens by sharing a trusted COVID-19 certificate. In this workshop we will discuss the emergent digital approaches that meet these needs trying to expand this idea towards the adoption of a common approach in exchanging a trusted electronic vaccination card, expanding the COVID-19 certificate use case. We will also introduce the WHO Global Digital Health Certification Network (GDHCN), launched in June 2023 in collaboration with the EU, which provides an infrastructure for the verification of health documents across and within borders. We will examine the origins of GDHCN through the currently supported COVID-19 certificate use case and discuss potential regional and global uses of the GDHCN for other types of health documents, such as the IPS. We will also assess the current EU initiative in the domain of creating a pan-European vaccination card based on the reuse of GDHCN and the interoperable European Digital Identity (EUDI) Wallet.
